Always Another Chore
Like there aren’t enough chores to do on a ranch as it is. There is always something to do, just part of the lifestyle. Just when you think it’s time to call it a day you notice the ground seems a little wet and has for a few days in the same spot.. Boss I and Boss II decide to start the investigation by digging. Boss I supervises while Boss II does the manual labor. Well, he digs and digs and digs some more until finally he finds the leak. It takes the rest of the afternoon to finish the repair but now all is good as new. Until the next chore comes up, and we know it will at some point.

Pig Weed
It doesn't even sound like a nice name. The rain is welcome around here but one side effect from it is Pig Weed. It is everywhere. It grows around everything. Rain and spring time are the special blend of ingredients that make it grow like crazy. The goats can't even keep up with it, the sheep don't seem to like it and the horses just snub their nose at it. Must be why they call it Pig Weed. Only pigs like it and we don't have any of those. Not sure they could keep up with it if we did have some of those little snorters. I swear you can watch it growing taller if you look close enough. Weed whacking is turning into a full time job for some of us. I wonder if anyone rents pigs?
Growing around every piece of farm equipment just like this.

Some People Should Not Wear Bikinis
But we're not talking about Kendra. She has worked hard for several months with a diet and exercise program to compete in the 2010 NPC Natural Western USA Bodybuilding, Figure, Fitness and Bikini Championships. Brian and another trainer helped her with workouts and with all the hard work she lost over 25 lbs. She competed in the bikini portion of the event and placed 6th. Although she was disappointed that she did not place higher, the promoter felt she was what a bikini girl should look like and has asked her to be the promotion model for the next championship event.
There were 15 girls in this portion of the competition. This is a sample of her competition.

Spring in the Desert
The desert behind our house is beautiful this time of year. All the rain we have received in the last several weeks has made for a green spring on the mountain. It is amazing that we can open up our back door to this and walk out through the gate and be in the middle of the largest municipal park in the country. (South Mountain Park).

Football Ends
Nathan is a great little athlete and played this season with older boys. He gained experience as a quarterback and receiver. He sure was proud of his trophy. As he's growing, his athletic ability seems to get better and better. At times, it's hard to believe he is only in second grade. Now it's on to baseball until football season returns.

Miniature Mules
Our quest for a team of miniature mules doesn’t seem to be going very well. One way is to try to buy them or do it the old fashioned way and start your own mini mule breeding program. All you need is some good breeding stock, a miniature donkey and a miniature horse. Mike gave me a surprise Christmas gift to start our little mule project. She’s the cutest little miniature horse, with a white star on her forehead. Well, Ms. Star, as I called her, must have gone through a sex change in the trailer on the way home from the auction because she was sold as a she, but now he’s a he. I know what you're going to ask next. How could you not tell it's a male, it should be obvious. This little guy was really shy until one day we saw something and went "What the heck is that"? Of course, once something sets foot on the Lazy S Ranch, it never leaves so I guess he’s with us for a while. Welcome, "Mr". Star.

The Mason

Mike is like my Marlboro Masonman. He’s handsome, rugged and has a heart of gold. Did I mention he is also one of the best masons around. Those Egyptians have nothing on him. Pyramids, Schmiramids, he can build plenty of things without using slave labor. He really loves those grandkids, who can blame him. Look at those little cuties!
